The Booker and Giller prizes are revealed — Revue Les libraires

English literature also has its literary prizes, of course. In Canada, the Giller Prize is one of the most prestigious, while the Booker Prize, in England, is the equivalent of the Goncourt Prize.

Anne Michaels won the Giller Prize for her novel Heldpublished by McClelland & Stewart. Jury members highlighted their appreciation by describing the book as a powerful and hypnotic exploration of mortality, resilience and desire. Let us also remember that his novel was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. The French translation of Heldedited by Dominique Fortier, was published this fall by Alto, under the title Hugs. The Giller Prize comes with a nice scholarship of
$100,000. The finalists, including the English translation of Éric Chacour’s novel, What I Know About Youwill each receive a $10,000 scholarship.

The Booker Prize was awarded to Samantha Harvey for her novel Orbitalpublished by Grove/Atlantic. His novel tells the daily life of six astronauts aboard a space station, with a reflection on humanity and the climate crisis as a backdrop. The French translation was published this spring by Flammarion, under the titleOrbital: One day, sixteen auroras. Since 1969, the Booker Prize has been awarded to the best novel written in English. It comes with a grant of 50,000 pounds (approx. $90,000).
