the real competitor for the title is Basel aka FC ASF! – The Children of Servette

There is no point in hiding, this match is not decisive for the title but it will say a lot about our ability to race with the Rhinelanders. Defeated in the first leg by the Basel side who gave us the beating of the century, we clearly expect a positive result from this Servettian visit to the Saint Jakob-Park Stadium.

FC Basel’s home results

If we look at FC Basel’s overall home results this season, we say that we can win for the Rhinelanders. On the other hand, if we analyze the last 2 months, we are already much less optimistic about the future of Garnet in Basel.

We won there a little over a year ago, but that followed 20 years of complete drought. In addition, FC Basel was really dying at that time (they had just lost 3-0 at home against SLO). It’s a completely different Basel that Servette will encounter.

Let’s start with the only positive point for us, German Kade will be suspended for this match. He was trained at Hertha Berlin and has always been around the German national youth teams until now. This 20-year-old (!) attacking midfielder, who arrived in Switzerland in the summer of 2022, has been widely used by coach Celestini recently. He scores reasonably (2 goals) but on the other hand brings a lot with his percussion.

Let us now break down some of the many strong points of FC Basel. In addition to a budget estimated at 3 times higher than ours, FC Basel is a hit and scores a lot, as we have pointed out. We still remember the 6-0 inflicted on the Garnet last August.

The supreme quality of FC Basel is its attack line! At Yverdon, there was Shaqiri, Kevin Carlos and Traoré. Ajeti (the second Rhine scorer) was on the bench. 35 goals in 14 matches. But only 11 at home but in 6 matches.

Another strong point, the public. The stadium is full again and the Shaqiri effect is still there. We can talk about a real twelfth man and the Garnets will taste it!

A conquering Servette?

Winning a championship means at least doing well in direct confrontations. Basel lost to FC Lugano and FC Zürich. For us, it was a failure for the first meeting between the 2 teams.

What will happen in the second game against Basel? In any case, we are going to know a little more about our claims. We know that we are better than FC Zürich (4 points out of 6 against them) but what about against the Rhinelanders? Before Lugano (another test), next week.

Response Sunday evening for FC Basel.

Come on Servette!
