The Madrid daily The World sees in this matter a “Russian strategy of destabilizing countries it considers enemies”. On Tuesday, November 19, the Spanish newspaper reported that two of his fellow citizens, at least one of whom also has Russian nationality, were arrested last September – without giving a precise date – in Riga, the capital of Latvia, where they had fled. They were subsequently extradited to neighboring Lithuania, which suspects them of “terrorism”, and were detained in Kaunas.
According to information fromThe World, which is based on the first elements of the investigation, these two Spaniards took a flight from their country of origin to the north of Lithuania with the aim of carrying out an attack in the town of Siauliai, where a “NATO military mission”. “Various clues” connect them to “the sabotage campaign that Russian intelligence services are promoting in the Baltic countries, which share a border with Russia and maintain a strong posture of support for Ukraine,” details the conservative daily.
Moscow “has targets in Lithuania”
Recruited via Telegram messaging, the two Spaniards targeted a private company, TVC Solutions, which they apparently wanted to burn down. Ukraine is one of the clients of this company specializing in the installation of radio and television equipment, but which “does not produce any type of military equipment”, confirmed The World. TVC Solutions has subsidiaries in Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia and Kazakhstan.
Their alleged operation having failed, the two individuals fled to Latvia. Now detained in Lithuania, they avoid talking about the facts with which they are accused, without having yet denied them, assures the newspaper. “The Latvian government has not provided information on this matter”, complete The World, while “Spanish authorities in Riga were unaware of this arrest until the families sounded the alarm.”
Interviewed by Lithuanian public media LRT on whether or not this type of alleged attack was a threat “real” for Lithuania, the National Security Advisor of the Presidency, Kestutis Budrys, confirmed that “These are proven events. We have an enemy on the other side [de la frontière, à savoir la Russie]which has planning capabilities, resources and can act comprehensively”. This type of event thus confirms that Moscow “has targets in Lithuania”, he added.
