A collective of library and archive professionals wanted to propose a new way of approaching regional heritage, by giving them a more accessible form. As a gateway, seven investigations into as many unusual and little-known facts from yesterday, using documentary funds and other rare archives.
The inaugural case of the epOcc project is entitled “ The affair of the grave of death » and took place in the department of Aude, and more precisely in Narbonne, in 1779. On April 16, the digging of a cesspit caused a series of suspicious deaths…
To reconstruct the thread of events and connect the clues together, epOcc called on Yannick Robert, known as Bob, an illustrator from Montpellier who embarked on a transcription and illustration, webtoon style, of this unusual news item. The result can be freely discovered on the epOcc website.
In addition to the seven big cases that will be told, epOcc will return, thanks to “samples», on other anecdotes, shorter but just as interesting, taken from the past.
The project was supported by the 2024 Call for Written Heritage Projects from the Occitanie region.
