A couple found dead in Basècles: seals also affixed to the niece’s home

For a while, the niece had been behaving strangely

The seals were affixed not only to No. 88 but also to No. 96, where the niece of the two deceased people is domiciled, who most often resided with them and who was interviewed by the police Wednesday evening. Her name is Patricia L.

“We often saw a lady arriving and leaving on a bike,” confides this neighbor. “We didn’t know where she came from. Strangely, for a while now, she had been acting strangely. When she saw us, she hid behind the cars and when she passed the children, she dropped the mail she had in her hands and without saying hello to go into the house of these elderly people. We haven’t seen the bike for a while.”

No news from the lady for at least a year

Aimée Marichal had been unwell for a long time. She had undergone a quadruple bypass a few years ago and remained bedridden most of the time. “We haven’t heard from her for at least a year,” explains this neighbor. “What tipped us off was that the man brought a truck with drinks, crates and vegetables every week. However, for about a month, the truck had stopped passing.”

Jean-Pierre Van Luchene got along well with some neighbors but often argued with others, especially over cat issues. He regularly did his little walk around the front with a crutch, but not lately.

His car was found in the parking lot of the Basècles sports hall, a few hundred meters away. “She had been there for at least three years because he no longer knew how to drive anyway,” underlines a local resident encountered in the street. “The emergency services have been interested in this home three times already, but each time the gentleman responded and so everything seemed to be going well.”

But this time, Jean-Pierre Van Luchene no longer responded…
