Death of actress Toian Matchinga, seen in the series “Mysteries of the West”

The actress, who appeared in half a dozen episodes of Mysteries of the Westended her acting career in the 1990s. She has just passed away at the age of 82.

American actress Toian Matchinga, who appeared in several episodes of the cult series from the 1960s Mysteries of the Westdied last Sunday of natural causes at her home in Massachusetts, her family announced Wednesday. She was 82 years old.

“(She) had a talent for telling, in an often outrageous manner, hilarious stories inspired by her life in New York and Hollywood,” those close to her said in a statement sent to the Hollywood Reporter.

Originally from Ohio, she appeared between 1965 and 1969 in half a dozen episodes of Mysteries of the West with Robert Conrad and Ross Martin. The series, titled Wild Wild West in original version, followed the adventures of James T. West and Artemus Gordon, two agents of the United States Secret Service, in the American West in the 19th century.

From Barbra Streisand to Costa-Gavras

The actress, whose real name was Caryn Matchinga, also appeared in several successful series in the 1960s such as Raiders of the Wild West, Jinny of my dreams et Funny couple.

In the cinema, Toian Matchinga has played in several renowned films such as the thriller Madigan (1968), directed by Don Siegel (Inspector Harry). We could also see her in the comedy with Barbra Streisand Up The Sandbox (1972).

Toian Matchinga last appeared in the cinema under the direction of Costa-Gavras in Mad City (1997). She also worked as a television scriptwriter and wrote an erotic novel in 2012.
