► Russia will make “maximum efforts to avoid” a nuclear war

The Kremlin affirmed Thursday, November 21, that Russia would « maximum d’efforts » to prevent a nuclear war after a revision of Russian doctrine which broadens the possibility of using atomic weapons, in the midst of tension between Moscow and the West over the conflict in Ukraine.

“We emphasized that, following our doctrine, Russia takes a responsible position in order to make maximum efforts not to allow such a conflict”declared the spokesperson for the Russian presidency, Dmitri Peskov, saying he hoped that “other countries” will have “this responsible posture”.

► Russia fired an intercontinental missile at Ukraine

Russia fired an intercontinental ballistic missile in an attack on the town of Dnipro in east-central Ukraine, for the first time since beginning its invasion in 2022, the Ukrainian air force has charged .

“An intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the Russian region of Astrakhan” the Air Force said. “It’s the first time. We've never had this kind of missile before.”specified a source within this army. These types of missiles are designed to carry nuclear warheads and strike from thousands of kilometers away.

The Kremlin declined to comment on Ukraine's accusation.

► Moscow claims the capture of a town near Kourakhové

Russia has claimed the capture of a small town near Kurakhové, in eastern Ukraine, one of the sectors of the front where its troops have been advancing for several months against the Ukrainian army.

“Units from the South group (…) liberated the locality of Dalné”the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. This locality is located about five kilometers south of Kourakhové.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had shot down “two British-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles” fired by Ukraine and which targeted its territory, without specifying the place or time of this interception.

“Their mechanized forces are no longer in the lead. They are advancing on foot in order to approach and do things to open the way for the mechanized forces.”said Lloyd Austin during a visit to Laos, a country long ravaged by this type of weaponry.

Ukrainians “need things that can help slow down this effort on the part of the Russians”he added as the advance of Russian troops accelerates in eastern Ukraine.
