A few weeks before the end-of-year holidays, several uncertainties weigh on rail traffic for the holidays. Users first fear that the strike which began this Thursday, November 21, will be renewed before Christmas.
Another concern: train ticket prices. In 2023, the SNCF had announced an average increase of 5% in the prices of its TGVs. According to calculations by the Transport Regulatory Authority (ART), the average price of high-speed trains would have increased by 7% in 2023, i.e. more strongly than inflation which is 4.9%, according to the figures. of INSEE.
Guest on RTL, the CEO of SNCF, Jean-Pierre Farandou said it was “still too early” to estimate whether a price increase will occur. “It is possible that we will increase because we are forced to increase when costs increase. There is a form of impact of the increase in costs on prices,” he explains.
“If we have to increase, it will be by one digit”assured Jean-Pierre Farandou to reassure users. “When inflation was very high, only half of the costs were passed onwe made an effort, a form of price shield,” he recalled.
