Assumptions turn into suspicions, becoming stronger and stronger. What is the cause of the fire in the Naudet nursery warehouse in Planchez in Nièvre on Thursday November 14? And above all, is anyone behind it?

If the end of the story is still desired, this Wednesday, November 20, the Nevers public prosecutor’s office gave the first clues to the investigation. Although investigations are ongoing, Marie-Christine Woldanski, deputy public prosecutor of Nevers, explains: “We do indeed have suspicions as to the criminal nature of the facts, without being able to confirm it with certainty at this stage.”

The day after the fire, Frédéric Naudet, the company’s general director, gave his guesses as to the origin of the flame outbreak: “This is just me, but I’m pretty convinced it was arson. It’s very strange that a fire would break out here in the middle of the night, other than to cause harm at a key moment of the year for us but I trust the gendarmerie to shed light on this incident.

As a reminder, the 1,300 square meter building was completely destroyed. It housed equipment and consumables used for the production of the famous Morvan Christmas trees. Despite the disaster, Frédéric Naudet was confident that he would be able to satisfy all his customers. Since the fire, he no longer wishes to speak publicly about this “sad affair” : “we are focused on our season“.
