House of Representatives members seek mutual settlement on case of Cabup Sampang witnesses killed in search, recalling peaceful elections

JAKARTA – Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives Nasir Djamil highlighted the case of the death of a witness of one of the worst candidates (paslon) Pilbup Sampang, East Java. He asked law enforcement to further investigate the alleged case of involvement of this political element.

“I regret that there was such a tragic incident in the middle of a popular holiday event or this election. “We ask the police to thoroughly investigate the motives of the gangs until the death of a witness from one of the candidate pairs,” Nasir told reporters, Wednesday, November 20.

Nasir stressed that violence is not justified for any reason. “Any party who commits violence must be legally responsible. Act decisively for the perpetrator of the theft who killed the victims,” he stressed.

The Sampang resident who was killed was named Jimmy Sugito Putra who was a witness to Regent Candidate (pravup) and Wabup Sampang, Slamet Junaidi-Achmad Mahfudz (Jimat Sakoh). The case stems from the attack on a car of Slamet and Achmad after the paslon is not classified 2 went to the house of one from Kiyai Muform in Ketapang District, Sunday, November 17.

The Slamet group finally managed to leave the site after one of the teams of Muhammad bin Maafi Zaini-Abdullah Hidayat (Mandat), who is the paslon of his opponent, removed it from the obstacles. But then the commotion arose after the Slamet Junaidi group walked out of the venue. As a result, the crowd carrying a sharp weapon attacked the victim. Jimmy died after being attacked and stabbed (carok).

If it turns out that there are indications of political involvement in the incident, Nasir believed that this bloody incident must be an impetus for the introvision of political culture in Indonesia. He recalled that democracy must be done peacefully.

“We truly hope that all parties can follow the elections in an orderly, safe and peaceful manner. The political sector must return to ethical and democratic ways, where any difference of views can be appreciated without destroying life and human dignity,” Nasir explained.

According to Nasir, dissatisfaction caused by political competition should be resolved through dialogue and democratic elections, not through violence that creates fear in society.

“Such violent actions should not happen. We must uphold sound politics, including in the implementation of elections as a people’s party which should be encouraging,” continued the Dapil Aceh II legislator.

For information, the police have currently secured two gang perpetrators and are still pursuing other perpetrators. The Sampang 2024 vote will be held on November 27, 2024 in 1,344 TPS across 180 villages and six subdistricts in 14 subdistricts.
