Hezbollah leader Naïm Qassem promised Wednesday to aim “the center of Tel Aviv”in response to Israeli strikes on the Lebanese capital on Sunday. “The enemy has attacked the heart of the capital, Beirut, so they should expect a response on the center of Tel Aviv”, he said in a pre-recorded speech.
In his speech, Naïm Qassem paid tribute to Hezbollah media head Mohammad Afif, killed Sunday in an Israeli bombing in the Ras El-Nabeh neighborhood in central Beirut, alongside four members of his team.
“We have regained our vigor in all areas,” assured Mr. Qassem, while admitting a “state of confusion” for around ten days within the Lebanese movement, after the assassination of their leader, Hassan Nasrallah, on September 27.
Israel “cannot impose its conditions on us”insisted the new leader of Hezbollah, to say that the movement would not accept any agreement with Israel which violates “sovereignty” of Lebanon, while Israel says it wants to maintain a “freedom of action” against the pro-Iranian formation. He added that Hezbollah demanded “the total cessation of aggression and the preservation of sovereignty” from Lebanon. “The Israeli enemy cannot penetrate whenever it wants” in Lebanese territory in the event of a ceasefire, he said.
American envoy Amos Hochstein met twice on Tuesday and Wednesday with the President of Parliament, Nabih Berri, who liaises with Hezbollah to discuss the American ceasefire plan. “We received the sheet [américaine] and we made comments”explained Naïm Qassem.
“Our remarks, and those of the president [Nabih] Berri, who are in harmony, were transmitted to the American envoy »who is due to travel to Israel on Wednesday, he added. He believed that the conclusion of a ceasefire now depended “of the Israeli response and the seriousness of [Benyamin] Nétanyahou »the Israeli prime minister.
