The Residual Materials Authority of Lac-Saint-Jean (RMR) and Waga Energy have signed an agreement concerning the implementation of a renewable natural gas (RNG) production project at the landfill site (LET) of Hébertville-Station, signing which was announced this Wednesday.
This project will make it possible to operate a purification unit which will transform the biogas generated by LET waste, thus creating a renewable alternative to fossil natural gas. This installation would produce a maximum of 200,000 GJ (gigajoule), a number equivalent to powering 2,280 homes, while avoiding the emission of approximately 10,000 tonnes of CO2 and all this, annually.
The beginning of the named project WAGABOX® is planned for 2026. For now, the project’s feasibility study will receive a maximum of $300,000 from the Ministry of Economy, while a grant application for the project itself will be submitted as part of of the Plan for a Green Economy 2030.
The Hébertville-Station project is Waga Energy’s fourth RNG production project in Quebec, one of which is located in Chicoutimi.
