The new leader of Hezbollah, Sheikh Naïm Qassem, affirmed on Wednesday November 20 that no ceasefire agreement would be accepted if it violated “ sovereignty » from Lebanon. This is in response to Israel’s intentions to demand a ” freedom of action » in Lebanese territory against the Shiite group, in the case of an agreement. In a televised speech, Naïm Qassem declared that Israel “ cannot impose its conditions » to Hezbollah, while Washington dispatched its special envoy to silence the weapons.

The Hezbollah leader has given the green light to seek a diplomatic solution to the ongoing war with Israel. However, he warned that he would not abandon the military option to confront Israeli attempts to occupy Lebanese territory.
Sheikh Naim Qassem gave his support to the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri. The main Shiite figure in the state, Nabih Berri, was mandated to negotiate on behalf of Hezbollah with Joe Biden’s special envoy, Amos Hochstein. The latter spent two days in Beirut before leaving for Tel Aviv on Wednesday evening, with the Lebanese responses to a proposed agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
A proposal which must result in a “ complete and total ceasefire, while preserving Lebanese sovereignty », insisted Naïm Qassem, who refused to give the details of the agreement in progress.
