The Finance Commission of the Grand Council accepted this Wednesday the 2025 draft budget for the Canton of Geneva. Only the two UDC commissioners out of the 15 members of the commission voted against this loss-making project to the tune of 255.7 million francs.

This green light should foreshadow a positive reception from the Grand Council, during the plenary debate on December 12 and 13. As a reminder, after presenting a balanced budget in September, the Council of State subsequently amended the project due to lower tax forecasts than expected.

Deficit, the roadmap retains the increase in positions initially planned (+577.2 FTE), does not affect the annuity of civil servants and anticipates the effects of a yes to the tax cut in the vote this Sunday ( 326 million less income).

On the other hand, the indexation of civil servants' salaries was crossed out, the Council of State having justified this measure by the fact that it was very low (+0.2%).

The Finance Commission accepted the amended project of the Council of State, with a few details, according to its president, PLR Jacques Béné. But she refused to take note of the four-year financial plan 2025-28 by 9 votes (PS, Greens, MCG, UDC) to 6 (LJS, Center, PLR).
