Since the entry into force of the Mountain law on November 1, 2021, motorists traveling in certain mountainous areas in France must equip their vehicles with specific equipment for the winter periodextending from November 1 to March 31.
What about Dijon and the Côte-d’Or department?
In Côte-d'Or, the prefecture decided, by decree of October 4, 2021, to do not make this winter equipment obligatory. This decision is based on an analysis of climatic conditions, topography and road connections in the department.
So, no commune in Côte-d’Or is not subject to the obligation of specific equipment during the winter period provided for by the Mountain law.
What about neighboring departments?
The Côte-d'Or is surrounded by the following departments: Yonne, Nièvre, Saône-et-Loire, Jura, Haute-Saône, Aube and Haute-Marne.
Among them, the Jura is affected by the winter equipment requirement.
Other departments bordering are not subject to this generalized obligation. However, it is recommended to check local prefectural decrees, as some specific municipalities may impose winter equipment depending on weather conditions.
Recommendations for motorists
Although the obligation does not apply in Côte-d'Or, it is strongly recommended that drivers equip yourself accordinglyparticularly when traveling to neighboring departments where regulations may differ.
