UEFA, which had opened a disciplinary procedure, gave a victory on the green carpet (3-0) to Romania, which still received some sanctions. Edon Zhegrova's Kosovo will do well in the play-offs.
The match between Romania and Kosovo (0-0) did not end last Friday. The Kosovars left the pitch and returned to the locker room in response to the anti-Kosovar chants sung by part of the Romanian public. While the two federations gave their version of the facts in a press release, UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against the two teams.
“Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the Romanian Football Federation and the Football Federation of Kosovo in accordance with Article 55 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR) following the UEFA Nations League match between Romania and Kosovo disputed on November 15, 2024 in Bucharest, Romania. Further information on this procedure will be communicated in due course”relayed the BBC, British media.
The verdict fell this Wednesday for the two nations. The UEFA disciplinary authorities gave a victory on the green carpet (3-0) to Romania, holding the Kosovar Football Federation (FFK) responsible for the poor progress of the match. Edon Zhegrova & Co are therefore well and truly content with second place in their group in the Nations League. They will have to fight during the accession play-offs to hope to be promoted to League B. The locals nevertheless do not escape unscathed. The Romanian Federation was fined a total of 128,000 euros for multiple acts (discriminatory, racist, provocations, throwing and use of illegal objects), as well as a home match behind closed doors.
