Rescued by a man and the postwoman

A 93-year-old woman who lived there alone was seriously burned. She was rescued and taken out of her house by a man, with the help of the village postwoman, before the firefighters arrived. She was then airlifted, around midday, to University Hospital.

The fire started in the kitchen and then spread to the hallway. According to Lieutenant Frédéric Leriche, group leader of the intervention, the fire gained strength on the ground floor before reaching the roof via the attic access hatch. The roof was completely engulfed in flames. The house was very badly damaged, almost completely destroyed.

Main street reopened to traffic

The firefighters, called around 10:20 a.m., were still working at 1 p.m. to remove the roof tiles and contain the residual fires. Around twenty firefighters from the Albert and Val de barracks were mobilized.

Traffic was blocked in the main street of the town for the duration of the intervention but was lifted shortly before 1 p.m.
