A 92-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the murder and rape of a woman in 1967 in the Bristol area of southwest England, British police said Wednesday.
Louisa Dunne, 75, was found dead, strangled, at her home in Easton by a neighbor on June 28, 1967. The investigation showed that she had been raped. The case saw a twist in 2023, with new forensic examinations, police said.
Ryland Headley, a 92-year-old man, was arrested Tuesday morning and charged. “This is an extremely important moment in a horrific and heartbreaking case that has remained unsolved for nearly six decades,” the head of the investigation, Dave Marchant, said in a statement.
“We are absolutely determined to continue a thorough investigation to try to provide Louisa’s loved ones with the answers they have been waiting for all their lives,” he added. Ryland Headley was presented to court on video from the police station on Wednesday morning.
He only confirmed his identity. The nonagenarian will remain in police custody until Thursday, when a new hearing is due to take place.
