A racist insult was allegedly made against two Angevin players during a match against the US Tours on Saturday November 16. Abdoulaye Gassama, one of the Angers rugby players, is calling for sanctions.
The 18-year-old shared his dissatisfaction on social networks after this racist insult, two days after the match. His post was widely shared:
The racist insult was allegedly uttered by a US Tours player, during the U18 match against Angers, who was not interrupted despite a report to the referee. The players confronted each other at the end of the match, but the coaches intervened to ease tensions.
The Tours club indicated this Tuesday, November 19 that a internal investigation is in progress and a sanction could be pronounced.
In his press release, Abdoulaye Gassama explains that this is the first time hearing racist remarks in the sporting context. For him, this incident only “tarnish the image of our sport“. He asks that “concrete measures are taken” and that these behaviors “must under no circumstances be tolerated or left unpunished.”.
