In the fire that broke out in the middle of the night, Tuesday November 19, 2024has Loireauxence (Loire-Atlantique), at a place called Quatre vents, in the La Rouxière district, the hypothesis of the seed hot water bottle as the cause of the start of the fire is favored by the gendarmes.

Loire-Atlantique: a hot water bottle would have set the mattress on fire

The firefighters intervened for “a house fire” around 1:30 a.m. on the night of Tuesday November 19, 2024.

Two people were inside the house including a 69 year old woman deceased in the fire.

Her husband, aged 71 has, for its part, been slightly injured and transported to the Angers hospital center (Maine-et-Loire).

According to the gendarmes, the cause of the fire was a seed hot water bottle previously heated in the microwave, flammable and dangerous.

She would have put the fire in the mattress of the sixty-year-old during his sleep: “This is the favored hypothesis. The smoke would have first asphyxiated the victim of the disaster” explains the commander of the Ancenis gendarmerie (Loire-Atlantique).

Investigation in progress: “Her husband would have tried to save her”

The victim who was ill slept in a separate room from her husband who, smelling a burning smell, got up and saw smoke coming from his wife's room.

He would immediately tried to save her by taking her out of the housebefore the arrival of emergency services whose resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.

The investigation continues and an autopsy is plannedawaiting the decision of Nantes parquet.
