Emmanuel Macron tries to calm things down. The French president denounced on Tuesday November 19 a posture “escalatory” of Russia in Ukraine, calling Vladimir Putin “to reason”. The Russian president signed the decree expanding its possibilities of using nuclear weapons, after Washington authorized kyiv to use its long-range missiles to strike targets in Russia. Moscow said Tuesday that such an attack took place overnight.
“These last days and hours have marked a worrying evolution of the conflict, with an escalatory and therefore particularly bellicose posture on the part of Russia.”

“I really want to call Russia to reason here. It has responsibilities as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council”supported the Head of State in front of journalists at the end of a G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). “Russia today is becoming a global destabilizing power.”
“That peace will arrive in 2025 is what we all want. It depends first of all on Russia, and that it stops attacking, bombing, killing, invading. And then it depends on the agreement that the protagonists of this conflict will be able to find”declared the French president again.
Emmanuel Macron, who met his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping earlier in the day on the sidelines of the G20 summit, also said he had asked him to weigh in with Moscow, of which Beijing remains an ally. “I called on President Xi Jinping to use all his weight, his pressure, his negotiating capacity towards President Putin so that he stops the attacks”he said.
