The PlayStation Portal Remote Player experience will evolve with a new system update

A little over a year ago, we launched our first dedicated remote play device, PlayStation Portal Remote Player, with the goal of bringing a console-quality gaming experience to a portable device. For us, PS Portal was an ambitious product, and we were delighted by the positive reactions from our fans and the resonance our vision found in our community.

Today, we're excited to announce a new system software update for PS Portal releasing later today (European release begins Wednesday) that will deliver improvements to the audio experience, including:

  • Adjusted the speaker audio output so that the volume is lower when the audio level is at minimum
  • You will now be able to adjust your PlayStation Link device settings from your PS Portal settings menu, allowing you to optimize the overall volume and sidetone volume.

This update will also include the beta version of a new feature that many fans have been asking for: support for cloud streaming on PS Portal. When the update is available, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will be able to test the cloud streaming beta on PS Portal. They will be able to stream directly from our servers a selection of PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Games Catalog*, even if they do not have a PS5 console.

Since cloud streaming (beta) on PS Portal is still experimental, features offered in beta may change and may not be representative of the final experience.

Let's take a closer look at the contents of this beta:

Features available during beta

  • Stream select PS5 games via the PlayStation Plus Games Catalog
    • More than 120 PS5 games from the PS Plus Games Catalog, including DAVE THE DIVER, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, will be available on PS Portal via streaming in the cloud*
  • Maximum streaming quality: 1080p/60 IPS**
  • Features of the DualSense wireless controller, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, speakers, touchpad (emulated on the PS Portal touchscreen), and motion sensor***
  • PlayStation Plus cloud storage
    • You can store up to 100 GB of save data and progress in your games thanks to automatic synchronization on PS5 console. You'll be able to switch from local gaming to game streaming in the blink of an eye, and even switch between multiple devices.

Cloud streaming (beta) for PS Portal will be available with the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription plan, available in the following countries:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, , Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Romania, United Kingdom, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland.

Features not included in beta

We're still in the early stages of public testing of cloud streaming on PS Portal. Also, some features will be unavailable, such as game trials, streaming of games purchased from the PS Store, system features (like Party voice chat and play invites for certain games), the button creation, 3D audio and in-game transactions.

Additionally, streaming games playable on PS Portal will be exclusively PS5 games. PS4/PS3 games are not supported.

We read our players' comments with interest, and we hope that many of you will participate in the beta!
