The Edge 1050 is still eligible for software v10.19 on Garmin's stable development branch. However, the company has been working on a major new update, which it has been testing publicly as part of its beta program. As a reminder, Garmin launched the development of version 11 at the beginning of the month with the Public Beta version 11.17, which it quickly followed with the Public Beta 11.18.
Since then, Garmin has released Public Beta 11.19 before moving to Public Beta 11.21. For reference, the list of changes between the two versions is very rich in bug fixes and looks like this:
- Fixed data screens with maps showing the wrong layers.
- Fixed erratic grade value after a suspend/resume cycle.
- Fixed the stamina distance units to travel.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when powering off.
- Updated the icon displayed when the Edge is connected to a computer.
However, the total list of improvements between v10.19 and v11.21 expands to almost fifty by our calculations. Please note that your Edge 1050 (currently $699.99 at Amazon) may not have received a notification to download Public Beta 11.21, even if you have enrolled in the Garmin beta program.
As of this writing, the company has only rolled out the new update to a limited number of eligible bike computers for now. As always, you can skip the queue by going to the main menu of the Edge 1050, then selecting System, About and finally Check for Updates.
