TRM24 reveals the real figures on greenhouse gas emissions

According to the Directorate General for Energy and Climate (DGEC), 373 Mt CO2 eq of greenhouse gases were emitted in 2023 in , which represents a significant drop of 31%. Transport would be the only sector not to see a reduction in its emissions, estimates the DGEC. Fake ! TRM24 gives you the real numbers.

Data from the DGEC show that for 2023, of course, the largest reductions in emissions are observed in the energy and manufacturing industry sectors and, to a lesser extent, in the residential and tertiary sectors.

If we look more closely, contrary to what the DGEC suggests, greenhouse gas emissions in road freight transport are falling. Heavy goods vehicles emitted 27.88 Mt C02 eq in 2023 compared to 29.66 a year earlier.

Over 30 years, the truck pollutes a little more but in measured proportions: in 1990 it emitted 26.59 Mt C02 eq, again according to figures from the DGEC. We have to go back to the 2000s when the TRM sector emitted the most greenhouse gas emissions (32 Mt CO2 for trucks).

Another preconceived idea: we always point out road transport as a polluter. However, when talking about road transport, we mix the modes of transport. It is indeed the car that emits the most C02 eq: 67.53 compared to 27.88 for heavy goods vehicles in 2023, 19.52 for utility vehicles and only 2.86 for buses and coaches.

The figures that TRM24 gives you all come from the DGEC. Why give road transport a bad image again? Let's try to move forward and show the efforts of each of the sectors including the TRM in terms of decarbonization.
