“It’s Russia that is escalating,” reacts the editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine after Sergei Lavrov’s remarks

General Jérôme Pellistrandi reacts to the comments of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“Contrary to what Sergei Lavrov claims, it is Russia which remains in the position of the aggressor and which is in the escalation”reacted General Jérôme Pellistrandi, editor-in-chief of the magazine Défense Nationale, Tuesday November 19, at franceinfo following the remarks of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Earlier in the day, Sergei Lavrov ruled that Ukrainian firing of long-range American missiles was “a signal” according to which Ukraine and the West “[voulaient] climbing” and marked a “new phase” in the conflict.

“The response with the firing of ATACMS missiles is for Ukraine only a way of trying to defend itself against Russian aggression”explained Jérôme Pellistrandi. And to add: “Sergueï Lavrov’s comments are there to try to appear as a victim when it is Russia which is responsible for this situation.”

As for the broadening of the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons by Vladimir Putin, Jérôme Pellistrandi declared: “I don’t see how Russia could engage in a nuclear escalation. It would be a historic break, and Vladimir Putin would be, in history, the one who used nuclear weapons.”
