« It was nothing of the sort, confirms Maryse Vansuyt, the mayor. The idea for an exercise came from a discussion with one of the Miraumont firefighters. They were looking for a place to carry out situational maneuvers. The village hall was chosen for two reasons. Firstly because a fire hydrant had to be moved to bring the room into conformity. And because we had Saint Andrew's crosses placed around the field to secure the said room. The intervention of the firefighters therefore made it possible to test these two works, subsidized by the intercommunity and completed at the end of September. »
Firefighters therefore simulated a fire there. “ Our maneuver focused on two axesexplains Johan Pitarch, chief sergeant of the Miraumontois barracks. First, the protection of firefighters in a hostile environment: they had to install and operate insulating breathing apparatus. Then there was the rescue of a victim, in this case a mannequin, believed to be unconscious. It was necessary to find her in the fire, take her out and perform the first aid measures. »
