To feel happier and more grateful every day, a word to say and put into practice on a very regular basis could well change the way you see life. We'll explain!

Happiness is sometimes found in the simple things in life. As the days start to get shorter and temperatures drop, our morale can quickly drop to zero. The holiday season is also fast approaching, which can cause stress and anxiety for some people. To chase away negative thoughts and appreciate the present moment, Meghan Watson, founder and clinical director of Bloom Psychology & Wellness in Toronto revealed to the American edition of Huffpost , the word to say every day to be happy: “Enjoy”.

More than just a word to say out loud, it is also a way of acting on a daily basis. Enjoy five more minutes in the shower or enjoy your lunch outside rather than at the office. The idea is to enjoy small, simple pleasures every day. “It is actually a concept recognized in the field of positive psychology as a way to intensify and prolong experiences that generate more positive emotions, such as joy, gratitude, acceptance, pleasure and love”explains Joseé Muldrew, certified professional advisor to the American media.

Savoring the little joys: an antidote to stress and uncertainty

According to the expert, savoring is a powerful way to build resilience in the face of life's challenges. “It’s so easy to get caught up in our lives – with daily stressors, the uncertainty of the world, and negative experiences – that it can be easy to overlook the good times and the more meaningful times.”she explains. By taking the time to savor, we can not only manage stress better, but also “expand our internal resources and our capacity to flourish in adversity”. Meghan Watson also points out that savoring can release perfectionist expectations: “We become very black and white in how we experience our joy.” Savoring the present moment therefore encourages a more flexible and spontaneous approach to everyday pleasures.

It is possible to savor the past by remembering a happy memory, keeping a journal or creating a photo album. Savoring the present means expressing gratitude while taking a walk, eating a dish you love, or chatting with someone you love. Savoring the future is also possible by anticipating or imagining a pleasant future experience. So, ready to try?
