Rafael Nadal bows in his potential final career match

The Spaniard Rafael Nadal lost (4-6, 4-6) against the Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp in the Davis Cup, this Wednesday, November 19, for what could be his last career match.

Rafael Nadal's Davis Cup journey could end the same way it began: with a defeat. Swept by the Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (4-6, 4-6) for the first match of the quarter-finals of the prestigious team competition, the “Bull of Manacor” could have delivered his last professional performance on a tennis court .

In a short Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena of Malaga in fusion, the native of Mallorca could not fight against the 80th world player, despite the support of his Spanish fans.

A farewell that can be postponed

Broken at the very end of the first set, the 38-year-old Spaniard suffered the law of the former 22nd player in the world in the second set: trailing 1-4, Rafael Nadal was able to save the furniture by losing by the same score in this last round (4-6).

Led 1-0 by the Netherlands, Spain must turn things around in order to avoid elimination in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup, as well as a “failed” last dance for Rafael Nadal.

To do this, Carlos Alcaraz must first win against Tallon Griekspoor, before a doubles which promises to be more than decisive.
