The UFC-Que Choisir association has launched a group gas purchase offer. The contract ensures a fixed price for a period of 2 years with the promise of a reduction in prices of at least 14% (compared to the month of November).

While an increase in gas taxation is looming, initiatives aimed at lowering prices are welcome for consumers. Hélène, a Parisian, who has always heated herself with gas, has seen her bill explode in recent years.

“More than 30 years ago, gas was much cheaper than electricity. Now, it is no longer worth it at all. But if there are offers to pay less, I will find out”she says.

But changing heating energy is not within everyone's reach. “I would prefer to change, electricity is becoming cheaper. If I could install a heat pump, I would, but it is very expensive”she continues.

The consumer association, UFC-Que Choisir, is thus setting up a group purchase of gas at the national level as well as a comparator aimed at being able to simulate whether the offer is interesting.

The promise is tempting: “-14% compared to the cheapest on the market. Compared to the benchmark price, the savings made can range from -17 to -22% depending on the consumption profile”says Antonin Marcault, general manager of Alterna Énergie, supplier which won the UFC-Que Choisir bid. The price is guaranteed and fixed for 2 years.

To subscribe, go to the dedicated site created by the consumer association. No need to be a member. All households are connected by GRDF, i.e. most of France excluding , or (many smaller municipalities are also affected).

“Experience shows that we have a very significant number of people interested”reports Cédric Musso, from UFC Que Choisir and interviewed by France Télévisions.

“Suppliers thus have possible subscribers by saving a whole series of commercial costs. They do not have to carry out a commercial campaign. The savings made are, ultimately, savings for the consumer”he says.

Interested consumers have until December 31 to commit, with a process relatively similar to mobile telephony: it is the company which is responsible for changing the contract.
