Fast fashion is mass-produced, low-cost clothing. A laboratory analysis of several t-shirts shows that a high price is not always synonymous with quality. The 1 p.m. and the “Behind our labels” section answer your questions every Tuesday.
A fleece for 10 euros, a shirt for 8 euros or even children's t-shirts for 2.5 euros. In stores and on certain sites, you can find clothes at very low prices. Between the t-shirt at 4 euros and the one at 17.99 euros, it is not always easy to see the difference. What are cheap clothes really worth? Could some low-cost products be of good quality?
In a specialized laboratory in Mulhouse, after analyzing three t-shirts at very different price ranges, it appeared that the quality of the fabric of the cheapest garment is not very durable. As for the other two, the quality seems roughly similar between mid- and high-end.
On average, the French bought 39 new clothes in 2023, t-shirts, pants, shirts… The average budget per year would be 668 euros, a significant sum for clothes that can stay in the closets for a long time.
