An easy match for Martin St-Louis

Needless to say, the Montreal Canadiens were in resplendent form Monday night, allowing themselves to collect a shutout in front of a panicked crowd at the Bell Centre. For one of the rare times this season, no passengers were present during this game against Connor McDavid’s Oilers. Each of the soldiers played their role to perfection, making Martin St-Louis very happy.

As St-Louis wisely indicated following this duel, the Habs did not perform many actions to help the Edmonton Oilers. The hybrid defensive structure was very on point and the mentality of the players was exactly where it should be game after game.

This is another step towards the location that the Habs want to reach in order to become a team that competes in every game. Here is what the chief pilot said on this subject:

“Yes, it’s a step in the direction we’re looking for. I find that we are starting to bring more consistency to that (maturity).”as reported by 98.5 Sports.

Obviously, this type of meeting is much easier to “coach” for a coach, which has certainly been good for Martin St-Louis, who is starting to be more serene behind the bench of his club.

“Our second and third period: how we managed the game, how we connected defensively… Offensively, we knew where we were going. It’s much easier to coach as a coach when you have these actions on the ice. We didn’t do a lot of actions that helped the other team.” – St-Louis

Let’s say that it feels good to observe a meeting where the Montreal Canadiens look like a team in control of its destiny. It feels good to feel that the mentality of each of the guys is in the right place.
