About to retire from sports, Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal will play the first singles of the Davis Cup match against the Netherlands on Tuesday, competition organizers said.
The match between Spain and the Netherlands is scheduled from 11 a.m. (HNE) in Malaga.
After Nadal’s match against Botic van de Zandschulp, the second singles will pit Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, world No. 3, against Tallon Griekspoor (40th), before a possible decisive doubles between the two teams, according to the final lineups published by the organization.
A defeat for Spain would end Nadal’s professional career, which began in 2001 and was marked by 22 grand slam titles, four Davis Cup victories (2004, 2009, 2011 and 2019) and two Olympic coronations (singles in 2008 and double in 2016).
Conversely, a victory would qualify David Ferrer’s players for the semi-finals, where they would face the winner of Wednesday’s match between Germany and Canada.
