Liège Assizes: Mohammed Hassar is found guilty of murder and attempted murder of his sons

Mohammed Hassar denied having wanted to kill his sons. He claimed to have injured Faissal by intervening in a fight. According to his version of the facts, he had “stabbed” his son with a stab in the back to scare him and end the argument. In August, he claimed to have acted in self-defense, when his son Bilal allegedly tried to stab him.

The jury, however, did not follow these arguments and found the septuagenarian guilty of the murder of Bilal Hassar by seven votes to five. The court then agreed with the majority. The jury justified its decision by emphasizing that Mohammed Hassar had the intention of killing his son and was not in a state of self-defense when he stabbed Bilal fatally.

Jurors also found Mohammed Hassar guilty of trying to kill his son Faïssal Hassar.

One of the accused’s children, a minor, had denounced the law of silence which reigns in the family and the influence of the father.

The debates on the sentence to be imposed on Mohammed Hassar will take place this Tuesday at the end of the day. The stop is expected in the early evening.
