The initiative of the mayor of Flers-en-Escrebieux (North) made many Internet users smile. The councilor issued a municipal decree allowing Santa Claus to fly over his commune without incident, on the night of December 24 to 25. And beware of those who do not respect it!
Jean-Jacques Peyraud, the mayor of this small town of more than 5,500 inhabitants, does not lack humor. This Thursday, November 14, he issued a special decree so that Santa Claus can make his rounds in the best possible conditions, on Christmas Eve.
“The authorization to fly freely over the airspace”
“On the night of Tuesday 24 to Wednesday 25 December 2024, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Santa Claus is authorized to fly freely over the airspace over the entire territory of the commune of Flers-en-Escrebieux in order to to carry out the distribution of Christmas gifts”, explains the decree, the “only condition” being “that the children are well asleep”.
This decree, which was sent to the sub-prefecture of Douai, also mentions that Santa Claus has the right to park his sleigh “on the roofs, in the streets or in the parking lots” of the municipality, “in order to drop off the gifts in homes”, knowing that the man in red “could be accompanied by elves in order to help him in this task”.
“Any obstructive parking of vehicles which prevents its passage and the delivery of gifts may be punished by a fixed fine of 35 euros,” the text also stipulates.
The naughty or wicked “prohibited from staying in the territory”
Article 3 invites all Flersois residents to “provide a few carrots for the reindeer, a small glass of milk and biscuits or fruit for Santa Claus and his elves”, due to the long tour.
Finally, so that the latter takes place in the “best conditions”, all the naughty or wicked are “prohibited from staying in the territory of Flers-en-Escrebieux”, it is specified, citing in particular the example of the Grinch and the Father Fouettard.
The humor of this decree goes so far as to indicate the presence of “city charging stations”, made “available” to Santa Claus, in case he uses a “hybrid” sleigh.
To “awaken the childish soul of every adult”
“No appeal may be filed against this decree before an administrative court or any other magical jurisdiction”, further points out article 6 of the decree, the deputies, delegated councilors and other elected officials joining this decree of the mayor to wish the inhabitants of the town “very happy end of year holidays”.
The document, published on the Flers-en-Escrebieux Facebook account, obviously received a burst of approval. In this way, the town hall wanted to “make all Flersois smile so that they forget for a brief moment the worries of everyday life”, reports BFMTV. It also aimed to “awaken the childlike soul of every adult.” It seems that judging by the cheerful comments, the goal has been achieved.
