Biden wants to help Ukraine as much as possible before Donald Trump returns to the White House

Shaken by time, American President Joe Biden made a strong gesture at the end of his mandate to support Ukraine by authorizing it to use long-range missiles, but this is not likely to change much on the ground, believes an analyst.

Mr. Biden had, however, hesitated to follow the advice of the British Prime Minister who urged him to give the green light to the deployment of this type of weaponry, before radically changing his tone since the deployment of North Korean soldiers in the war in Ukraine .

“What we are seeing is that, until January 19, Mr. Biden wants to give everything he can to Ukraine so that it finds itself in a strong negotiating position », Declared Stéphan Bureau on the TVA Nouvelles news program Monday evening.

This typically American way of pulling out all the stops to better eventually negotiate an exit has already been tried before, notably in Afghanistan, Iraq and Vietnam, according to the analyst.

“Today, we want to deploy all that remains of aid to Ukraine to give it the means to resist, but also perhaps to negotiate,” detailed Mr. Bureau, adding that this has not rarely, if ever, changed things for the Americans on the ground.

But beyond the prospect of the end of his mandate, there is undoubtedly the return of Donald Trump to business which seems to have hastened the decision of Mr. Biden, now engaged in a race against time.

It should be remembered that the Republican candidate’s inner circle strongly denounced President Biden’s decision to allow Kyiv to reach military targets on Russian territory, citing an “escalation” and a threat of a “third world war.”

“This is probably also why Mr. Biden is in a hurry to do everything to send, while he still has time, as much military aid as possible to Ukraine before Mr. Trump comes to power on January 20,” underlined the TVA Nouvelles collaborator.
