selection of the ATTF 2024 Translation Prize

The Prize organized by the Association of French Translators of Taiwan (ATTF) and supported by BNP Paribas, revealed the works in the running for 2024. Among the finalists:

Huang Xin-yi for his translation of Chopin’s The Telegraphist by Éric Faye, winner of the Grand Prix de l’Académie française.

Lin Yu-Hsuan, already a finalist in 2021 and 2023, for The scent of flowers at night by Leila Slimani.

Miao Yung-Hua, for his translation of German fantasy by Philippe Claudel.

Yen Hui-ying, nominated for the fourth time, with Nausea by Jean-Paul Sartre.

Lu Pei-chian, for his translation of Selected stories and short stories the Guy de Maupassant.

This edition’s jury, composed of Lo Shih-Lung, Kan Chia-Ping and Huang Huei-Yu, evaluated 16 applications, focusing on fidelity to the original texts and their fluidity. Five finalists were selected.

A second jury, made up of five experts, will choose the winner. The prize will be awarded in February 2025 during the Taipei Book Fair. Works published in the last two years can compete, and the winners receive a prize of 50,000 Taiwan dollars (around 1,500 euros).

In 2023, it is Anaïs Hsu Ya-wen’s translation of Writing like a knife by Annie Ernaux who had been distinguished.
