The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) officially took over the presidency of the Assembly of Telecommunications Regulators of Central Africa (ARTAC), at the end of the 9th ordinary session of the organization held on November 15, 2024 in Kinshasa.
Gathered for this transition, the members appointed Christian Katende, general director of the Post and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Congo, as new president of ARTAC, and Panzet Sebas, his counterpart of the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Congo. electronic communications and post of the Central African Republic, as vice-president. They succeed Louis-Marc Sakala of Congo, who held the executive presidency for a two-year term.
In his speech, Christian Katende underlined the importance of this responsibility and regional cooperation in the field of telecommunications. “I intend to continue ARTAC’s missions for the benefit of our countries. Although participating in several other organizations due to the position of our country, I intend to make ARTAC benefit from the experiences of the other entities in which we are; the Communications Regulators Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) and the East African Communications Organization (EACO), which are larger and have the same issues as us in Central Africa,” said Christian Katende.
The president of ARTAC insisted on the importance of sharing experiences, building capacities and defending common interests to ensure strong, transparent, credible and adaptable regulation to the needs of communities in the region.
Created on June 15, 2004, ARTAC is an inter-state organization bringing together regulators from the sub-regions of Central Africa around an exchange platform, promoting training, mutual assistance and the harmonization of points of view to meet the telecommunications challenges in the Central African sub-region.
