Murder of Marie Genevieve Jenny Ornella Tossé in 2018: Jenisen Ramen sentenced to 26 years in prison

Jenisen Ramen was sentenced to 26 years in prison for the murder of his common-law wife and 12 years for arson, sentences to be served concurrently. This verdict follows a marital drama that occurred in November 2018 in Vacoas.

Jenisen Ramen, an engineer, was sentenced on November 7, 2024 by the Assize Court to 26 years in prison for the murder of his common-law wife, Marie Genevieve Jenny Ornella Tossé, aged 27, as well as 12 years for arson criminal. The tragedy took place on November 15, 2018 in Vacoas.

According to the facts, Jenisen Ramen and the young woman had lived together for about two years and worked at the same place, he as an engineer and she as a computer analyst.

Three months before the incident, the couple had moved into a rented house in Vacoas.

In his confession to the police, Jenisen Ramen recounted an argument that occurred the day before the tragedy, motivated by the victim’s decision to end their relationship. He also claimed that Marie Genevieve Jenny Ornella Tossé had attempted suicide several times in the past.

On the day of the tragedy, an altercation broke out after the victim bit him on the finger while he tried to calm her down. In a fit of anger, he strangled her. As she struggled, her head hit a bedside table, causing an injury to the back of her head. When she stopped breathing, he set the room on fire to cover up the facts.

According to the medicolegal report, Marie Genevieve Jenny Ornella Tossé died from neck compression. His body had severe burns and head injuries.

In court, Jenisen Ramen pleaded guilty and expressed regret, asking for a second chance. Defended by Mr. Shameer Hussenbocus, he apologized to the family of the deceased and declared that he lived with permanent guilt.

In his judgment, Judge Luchmyparsad Aujayeb highlighted the seriousness of the facts and the lack of mercy of the accused towards the victim, who was fighting for his life. He also noted that this cold-blooded act, committed by his companion, brutally interrupted the young woman’s promising future. “(…) instead of coming to his aid after fatally assaulting the victim, the accused focused more on finding ways to end his life,” said Judge Aujayeb.

For him, it is essential to send a strong signal in the face of this type of crime. Hence Jenisen Ramen’s sentence to 26 years in prison for murder and 12 years for arson. He will serve his sentences concurrently.
