The Agnes McLaren association, whose headquarters is located in the town of Grabels, was created by Caroline Debladis, a Grabelloise of Scottish origin. The association works in honor of this Scottish woman, the first to graduate from the Faculty of Medicine of Montpellier in 1878.
Agnes McLaren dedicated her life to supporting women by fighting for better health and rights. Every two years a medicine prize worth €4,000 aims to reward a medical thesis on the health of women and/or children in precarious and/or vulnerable situations and funds work based on this thesis.
In 2023 the jury awarded it to Antoine Guernion for his post-thesis project on the health of women in precarious and vulnerable situations. For 2025, the 3rd edition of the prize, all medical students from the Faculty of Montpellier/Nîmes defending their thesis between April 2023 and March 2025 can apply via the site (www.agnes-mclaren.org) or by sending a email to the association ([email protected]). The prize will be awarded next September.
Solidarity evening for the Agnes McLaren Prize
In order to contribute to the financing of the 2025 prize, the Agnes McLaren association is organizing an evening, prior to the day of November 25, International Day to Combat Violence Against Women, on the theme of reconstruction after violence, during from which Alexandra Lamy’s film Touchées will also be screened.
The film is followed by a debate moderated by Aline Faucherre, clinical psychologist, president of the CIDFF of Hérault. A table with various documentation will be made available to participants. A friendship drink will be offered at the end of the evening.
