The President of the EMK took the opportunity to call for respect for the achievements of the March 1991 Revolution, particularly with regard to freedom of expression and opinion in Mali. It should be remembered that Cheick Oumar Sissoko assumed, after the incarceration of the current president, Me Mohamed Ali Bathily, the interim presidency. Indeed, it was while he chaired the Strategic Committee of the M5-RFP Mali Kura, under the Fasoden platform, that Me Mohamed Ali Bathily was unjustly arrested and detained for 4 months, with 10 other political leaders including political parties continue to demand release.
Taking stock of this presidency, Cheick Oumar Sissoko suggested that his fight was partly devoted to the search for ways and means so that their political comrades, who have not committed anything as sin to find themselves there, are nothing more than s being gathered in a private home to talk about Mali, the future of Mali, can regain their freedom.
“We were saddened by the abusive arrest of 11 of our comrades, including our current president, Me Mohamed Ali Bathily,” he said. And to continue: “The three months were dedicated to their release, but also and above all, to bringing us to respect public freedoms, because that is not the case. All levels of our society have been affected by this deprivation of liberty. We have focused our work on bringing the country back to a better understanding of the achievements of March 1991 and to respect for the Constitution and the laws in force. What we could not do was to ensure political activities to better understand this situation which is not good for the country, which is not good for mobilizing Malian citizens in this difficult transition, in this transition from security crisis, economic crisis, social crisis… We have not managed to carry out these political actions. But we continue our mobilization and we make it clear that it will be permanent for the simple reason that we love our country and we proved it when we were in office, whatever anyone says! He will mention, in addition to the case of incarcerated political comrades, all the other political and opinion prisoners, in particular Ras-Bath, Rokia Doumbia known as “Rose pepper”, Dr Etienne Fakaba Sissoko… The fight will therefore be to work, according to him, so that all these people deprived of their liberty can be released.
A conviction shared by the incoming President, notably former Prime Minister Modibo Sidibé, for whom “democratic Mali does not need to make political prisoners”!
“The continuation of the demand for the release of our comrades and those detained for political opinions will be part of the priority axis. We have learned the lessons from the suspension of political activities, detentions… We will fight against everything that concerns attacks on freedom and for the release of our political comrades (…) There is no point in dividing the Malians… no one will get by without the other (…) We are ready to create a movement to raise the issues relating to the return to constitutional order…”, declared Modibo Sidibé.
