At least eight people were killed in a broad daylight Russian missile attack on the southern Ukrainian port city of Odessa on Monday, authorities in the region said.

“According to initial reports, the Russian attack left eight dead and 18 injured. A child is among the injured. Four people are in serious condition,” regional governor Oleg Kiper said on his Telegram account.
“The enemy insidiously sent its missile towards a residential area, a zone of commercial activity,” accused the mayor of the city, Gennadyi Trukhanov, on the same social network, confirming the preliminary toll of eight dead.
In initial images taken by witnesses and broadcast by news channels on Telegram, we can see bodies on the ground, vehicles on fire and a building enveloped in dust and smoke.
Russia is currently intensifying its strikes against Ukraine. In particular, during the weekend, it increased its missile and drone attacks against this country’s cities and its energy infrastructure.
Eleven people, including two children, died in the bombing on Sunday evening of a residential area in Sumy, a city in northeastern Ukraine.
A few hours earlier, on Sunday morning, Ukraine said it had suffered “one of the largest” Russian air attacks against its energy installations.
