prices of medical consultations up in December

Long negotiations

After very long negotiations in recent months, Health Insurance and private doctors have validated the increase in medical consultations. This agreement was signed by decree in the Official Journal in June 2024.

What are the concrete changes at the general practitioner?

From December 22, 2024, a visit to the GP will cost €30, compared to €26.50 currently. For children under 6 years old, the consultation will increase to €35, compared to €31.50 until now.

This enhancement also concerns consultations with specialists. Consultations in certain clinical specialties losing attractiveness, notably pediatrics, psychiatry, rheumatology, medical gynecology, geriatrics and even endocrinology, will benefit from targeted and significant upgrades.specifies the national health insurance fund.

The amounts for pediatrician consultations also increase on December 22, 2024. For a child under 2 years old, the consultation set at €38.50 will increase to €39 in December to reach €40 in July 2025. If the child is between 2 and 6 years old, the price increases from €33.50 currently to €35 in December. In addition, technical acts are revalued, as are occasional consultant opinions (APC).

What about other specialists?

The coordinated consultation with the psychiatrist, neuropsychiatrist or neurologist, currently set at €51.70, will increase to €55 in December to reach €57 in July 2025. The price of a consultation in child psychiatry (extended up to 25 years) will reach €75.

The consultation with the medical gynecologist, set at €33.50, will increase to €37 in December 2024 to reach €40 in July 2025.

That at the geriatrician, set at €31.50, will increase to €37 in December to reach €42 in July 2025.

As for melanoma screening at the dermatologist, set at €47.50, it will increase to €54 in December, then to €60 in July 2025.

What are the rewards?

Health Insurance will increase doctors' prices. In return, she asks them to reduce their prescriptions for medications, examinations and work stoppages.

Nothing changes for teleconsultation

The new rates negotiated with Health Insurance provide that the rate for teleconsultation of general practitioners will be maintained at €25 for the next 5 years, compared to €30 for face-to-face consultations.

Always €2 payable by the insured

For the record, since May 15, 2024, the fixed contribution, that is to say the patient's contribution which is not subject to reimbursement from Health Insurance or complementary health insurance, has doubled from 1 at €2. This increase in the remainder applies in the context of a consultation or an act carried out by a doctor, whether general practitioner or specialist, as well as for radiological examinations or biological analyses. However, it does not apply to procedures performed by a midwife, a dental surgeon or even a medical assistant. It also does not concern beneficiaries of Supplementary Solidarity Health, State Medical Aid (AME) as well as women who have been pregnant for more than 6 months or who gave birth less than 12 days ago. is recalled on the official public service website.

Increase in user fees: fears

The government plans to reduce reimbursement for consultations by Health Insurance, going from 70% to 60%. This proposal is the subject of numerous criticisms: this is the case of MG , the doctors' union, this proposal is an illusion. Very badly named, this “moderatory ticket” (which has never moderated health spending even though that was – and still is – its pretext) does not allow any savings. Transferring a billion euros of public spending to complementary health insurance will lead to an increase in their prices. What health insurance does not pay will be paid by patients through their contributions, plus the management costs of these organizations, which are much higher than those of health insurance.”
