An informative meeting on flood risk in Vinassan

Didier Aldebert, mayor, in partnership with Smmar (Joint Union of Aquatic Environments and Rivers), invited the population to a meeting on flood risk. Nearly a hundred people came to learn about the right actions to take in such circumstances. He recalled the major events suffered by the municipality. On September 26, 1992, following heavy rainfall, torrents of water and mud rushed down the streams and streets of the town, rue du Dr Augé in particular, sowing desolation. In 1999, the flooding of the plain by the overflow of the Aude affected the districts of Devès and Chemin de l'Horte.

Good gestures

The Smmar representative then indicated the right actions to take before and during a flood to better prepare for an event of this type. Being informed is essential in order to understand the situation. Météo and the prefecture are alerting with various levels of vigilance. All people in flood zones should prepare to take various measures; move cars out of flood-prone areas, prepare a safety kit (lamp, radio battery, important papers, drinking water, food, etc.). Smmar provides tools to find out your situation on the Smmar'phone portal. During the crisis, the mayor triggers the Municipal Safeguard Plan through which an operational system is implemented to preserve the population: closing roads, keeping people safe, opening shelters for people in danger.

However, each person must be responsible for their own safety; It is imperative to postpone any type of travel (on foot or by car), not to drive onto a flooded road, to take shelter in a secure high-rise building preferably and to leave the children at school.

Aud'alabri

Another flood prevention system relating more to the buildings which house us was presented: Aud'alabri. Smmar offers to carry out flood diagnostics which allow you to identify the vulnerabilities of your home. From this, it is possible to carry out work to reduce these risks: carrying out cofferdams, modifications to the wastewater networks through which outside water can enter the house, modifying the electrical installation, etc. After this information meeting, Vinassanais citizens should be able to better anticipate a potential crisis of this type.
