Risks of flooding, 1722 activated, snow… part of Belgium on yellow alert

Lhe number 1722 dedicated to non-urgent interventions by firefighters was activated on Monday due to a risk of storm or flooding, the FPS Interior indicated in a press release. Continuous rain is expected in the provinces of Liège, Namur and Luxembourg. The Royal Meteorological Institute has therefore issued a yellow alert for these regions from early evening until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Monday evening and overnight, rain will affect the entire country. However, the showers will be particularly abundant south of the Sambre-et-Meuse furrow. In the next 24 hours, accumulations will reach 20 to 30 mm, even 40 mm and even locally 50 mm in the province of Luxembourg and in the Liège Ardennes. Tuesday evening, the rain will gradually be replaced by a little snow on the heights of the Ardennes, then it will gradually become drier during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.

In anticipation of this precipitation, the FPS Interior has therefore activated the special number 1722, in order to prevent emergency lines from being clogged with calls for interventions which can wait. In the event of damage caused by a storm or water damage for which assistance from the fire brigade is required, you must therefore dial this number. If a life is in danger, you should call 112.

However, the FPS recommends as a priority the use of the electronic counter 1722.be for non-urgent interventions. A request for assistance sent via this route is directly transmitted to the firefighters, while the call to 1722 will first go through the emergency center operators.

Weather forecasts region by region.
