This is a hard blow for the Metz institution. The Hisler bookstore is near the area affected by a fire this Sunday, November 17, 2024, in the city center of Metz. The business was unable to reopen its doors on Monday. No reopening date has been announced immediately by the century-old company. The latter wrote on her social networks this Monday, November 18 to her customers: “Currently the fire is under control and the firefighters continue to secure the scene. Unfortunately, the Metz establishments cannot open, but you can still find the Hisler BD Bis and Tome 5 teams (in Thionville), who are not affected and are impatiently waiting for you. The professional service will resume its work quickly, we will keep you informed as soon as we have news.”
“We cannot yet imagine the building damage”
François Grosdidier, mayor
The Hisler bookstore team says they have received “hundreds of messages of support” since the fire.
As a reminder, the latter took in the basements of a building located between rue Ambroise Thomas and rue au Blé in Metz. According to the city's mayor, François Grosdidier, it was the municipal police who called the firefighters and warned the residents. The intervention of firefighters (there were around a hundred) lasted all day Sunday. “New technical means have been imagined and mobilized. If the human tragedy was avoided by the vigilance and responsiveness of the municipal police officers of the City of Metz and the promptness of the firefighters, we cannot yet know or imagine the building and heritage damage,” declared the mayor on Sunday, in the evening, on his social networks.
“Currently, to help us, there is only sharing, comments, likes and your presence in our other stores. We will keep you informed very soon,” announces, fatalistically, Librairie Hisler.
