On Wednesday November 13, 2024, a 43-year-old man contacted the gendarmerie digital brigade to report an unusual death. He declared having seen the body of a septuagenarian in the toilet of the home of a friend, known for his criminal record, located rue Nationale in Gouarec (Côtes-d'Armor).
During his hearing, the man retracted his statements, admitting that he had gone there to deliver drugs when he discovered the body.
Narcotics and criminal trail
A search of the forty-year-old's home revealed impressive quantities of drugs: nearly 25 kg of cannabis, 137 g of cocaine and 13 ecstasy tablets. At the same time, a passerby reported the discovery of a body on a lawn, 100 meters from the home. Quickly, the gendarmes and a forensic doctor were mobilized.
Examination of the body, a 70-year-old man, revealed significant head injuries, multiple fractures and hand injuries caused by a sharp object.
Two arrests in 24 hours
On November 14, a thirty-year-old resident of Rue Nationale was arrested by the GIGN. He admitted to a violent altercation with the victim, which occurred two days earlier. After hitting her, he allegedly moved the body, thinking the man was still alive.
Meanwhile, the 43-year-old man, who had reported the death, admitted to running drug trafficking via Telegram and claimed to have reported the murder for fear of reprisals.
Congratulations from the prosecutor
According to Nicolas Heitz, public prosecutor at the Saint-Brieuc judicial court, the investigation enabled major progress in record time.
He praised “the commitment and efficiency of the soldiers of the national gendarmerie”, whose intervention led to two rapid arrests.
The 30-year-old suspect was indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention. As for the forty-year-old, he was sentenced to 24 months in prison, including six months suspended, for drug trafficking. “Investigations are continuing to establish the whole truth,” concluded prosecutor Nicolas Heitz.
