Authorization of long-range American missiles: Russia reacts

The Kremlin warns the United States. Moscow responded to Washington after its decision to allow kyiv to launch long-range American missiles at Russia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that such an offensive would lead to “a fundamentally new situation in terms of US involvement in this conflict”reports AFP. This authorization given to Ukraine by Joe Biden is indeed likely to “throw fuel on the fire” in the context of the war in Ukraine. “It is clear that the outgoing administration in Washington intends to take steps to continue to add fuel to the fire and provoke a further rise in tensions”he declared this Monday.

Moscow sees this “direct involvement of NATO countries”

After major new Russian strikes in Ukraine this weekend, the United States announced its decision through American media. Last September, Vladimir Putin warned against such a Western choice which would mean “direct involvement of NATO countries in the war in Ukraine”. Quoting the Russian president, Dmitri Peskov clarified that the strikes against Russia would therefore not be “ not carried out by Ukraine, but by the countries which give authorization”.

Washington has been one of kyiv’s most important supporters in its war against Russia. His help allowed him to resist the troops of Vladimir Putin, who launched his assault almost two years ago, in February 2022. The recent election of Donald Trump in the United States, who must be inaugurated in January, however, calls into question doubt this support. Many fear that the 47th US president will force kyiv into a stop-fighting agreement with Russia that would not suit him. Russia had already assured that discussions on stopping the offensive could not be based on “new territorial realities”, given that the Russian army has gained several territories in recent months.
