The conflict between Russia and Ukraine seems to be taking a completely different turn in recent weeks between the sending of North Korean troops alongside Putin's men and the authorization for kyiv to use American long-range missiles on the ground Russian.
The strengthened ties between Moscow and Pyongyang are reflected in particular by the sending of North Korean soldiers to the front lines to confront Ukraine with Russian soldiers. Although Volodymyr Zelensky hopes for an end to the war in 2025 through diplomatic means, in recent weeks we have seen a real escalation and peace seems to be fading away.
“Batches” of soldiers
As the third winter approaches, the war is in full swing between Ukraine and Russia. Volodymyr Zelensky's armed forces must now face North Korean soldiers, who are supporting the Russian army.
If they number in the thousands, the soldiers sent by Kim Jong-Un will soon number several tens of thousands. According to the American media BloombergNorth Korea could send up to 100,000 troops to the front and this would further strengthen ties between Russia and the enemy South Korea.
This is a possibility raised by the G20 countries, but they remain skeptical. “Military support on this scale – if it occurred – would likely occur in batches with troops rotating over time rather than in a single deployment”relate Bloombergrelayed by the magazine Geo.
Kim Jong-Un's support for Vladimir Putin does not appear to be merely human. “In recent weeks, North Korea has supplied some 50 domestically produced M1989 170mm self-propelled howitzers and 20 modernized 240mm multiple launch rocket systems”reports the Financial Times.
This assumption comes as Russia has harshly attacked Ukraine, particularly targeting energy facilities. A few hours later, Joe Biden authorized kyiv to use American ATACMS missiles on Russian soil.
While Donald Trump will take office in several weeks, the war in Ukraine seems to be taking a completely different turn and is experiencing a real escalation as a third winter approaches.
