On the night of November 18 to 19, 2023, Thomas, a 16-year-old rugby player from Drôme, was stabbed to death during a village ball in Crépol. A year after the tragedy, the investigation continues.
On November 19, 2023, Thomas, 16, was stabbed to death during a ball in the village of Crépol, in Drôme.
A year later, justice is still looking for the perpetrator responsible for the fatal blow, according to BFM. More than 350 hearings were conducted, fourteen young men were indicted, DNA tests were carried out and cell phone videos were used.
The fourteen young men are indicted for homicide and attempted intentional homicide committed by an organized gang. Aged between 18 and 22, they risk life imprisonment. Nine are in pre-trial detention today, five are free under judicial supervision.
Complex investigation
The complexity of the investigation lies in particular in the number of witnesses interviewed. The versions diverge and contradict each other, probably due to the massive consumption of alcohol during the ball. The crime scene was also trampled by the protagonists and the emergency services, and the absence of a video surveillance camera on the scene could not help the investigations.
What about the weapons?
Of the “parades d’identifications” were carried out. These are acts by which several people are presented before a witness to see if he recognizes the suspect. They were not conclusive, reports the continuous news channel.
The murder weapon or weapons were never found. Despite these difficulties, the investigation “move forward and move forwardsupports Me Guillaume Fort, whose firm defends several defendants, cited by BFM. We are getting closer to the truth (…), my clients are waiting for us to draw conclusions from the elements gleaned during the investigation.”
Upcoming auditions
A new wave of hearings is planned for this week from November 18 to 22, 2024. Will they be decisive for the progress of the investigation?
