A fire broke out in an apartment in Cusset, near Vichy, around 7:30 a.m. Monday November 18. This 5-story building on rue de l'Hôtel-Dieu was completely evacuated. Around forty people were able to leave the premises, but the resident of the apartment on 4th floor, where the fire started, is dead. The exact origin of this deadly fire is currently unknown. The fire pierced the roof of the building.
The tragedy also left another victim, an injured sixty-year-old woman transported to the Vichy hospital center. A firefighter suffered minor burns and a police officer present at the scene suffered smoke inhalation. Safe and sound, the other residents were gathered in a nearby retirement home, which was not impacted by the fire. In total, 46 firefighters were mobilized to contain the fire and treat the victims.
